Personal Vault: A Simpler, Private Way to Keep Your Important Information in One Place

How many places do you keep your important personal information?

A few documents might be sitting in your phone's Downloads folder. Important photos may be mixed with thousands of other pictures. Medical records could be buried in WhatsApp conversations. Notes and reminders may live in different apps, while copies of important documents might be scattered across cloud storage.

I found myself thinking about a simple question:

What if there was one private place on your phone for the information that matters most to you?

That idea led me to build Personal Vault.

What is Personal Vault?

Personal Vault is an Android app designed to give you a dedicated space for organizing important personal information such as documents, photos, medical records, notes, tasks, and other private content.

Instead of treating your phone as a collection of disconnected apps and folders, Personal Vault brings these types of information together into one organized space.

The goal isn't to add another complicated productivity system.

It's to make important personal information easy to store, organize, and find when you need it.

Your personal information should stay personal

When building Personal Vault, privacy was one of the things I wanted to prioritize from the beginning.

The app follows an offline-first approach, allowing your personal information to remain on your device rather than requiring everything to be stored on a remote server.

Access to the vault can also be protected using a PIN or biometric authentication, adding another layer of protection for your private information.

For people who prefer to keep sensitive information under their own control, this approach can be particularly useful.

One place for the information you actually need

Personal Vault isn't limited to one type of content.

You can use it for things such as:

  • Important personal documents

  • Identity and other records

  • Medical information

  • Private photos

  • Notes and personal information

  • Tasks and reminders

  • Other information you don't want scattered across your phone

The idea is simple: if it's important to you, you should have a dedicated place to keep it organized.

What happens if you lose your phone?

Keeping information only on a phone also raises an obvious question:

What happens if something happens to the device?

Personal Vault includes an optional encrypted Google Drive backup feature, giving users a way to back up their vault data while still maintaining an emphasis on protecting their information.

This provides an additional recovery option without requiring the app to depend on cloud storage for everyday use.

Built by an independent developer

Personal Vault isn't the product of a large software company or a big development team.

I built it as an independent Android developer, with the goal of creating a practical application that solves a problem I believe many people have.

Building an app independently also means making countless decisions about usability, privacy, security, features, and what should—and shouldn't—be included.

Personal Vault is an ongoing project, and I'm continuing to improve it based on real-world usage and feedback.

Who is Personal Vault for?

Personal Vault may be useful for anyone who wants a more organized and private way to manage important information on their Android device.

For example, you might use it to keep important documents available while travelling, organize family medical information, maintain private records, or simply stop searching through multiple folders and applications whenever you need something important.

It's not about storing everything.

It's about having one place for the things that matter.

Try Personal Vault

If the idea of having a private, organized space for your important information sounds useful, you can try Personal Vault on Android.

I'd also love to hear from people who try it. As an independent developer, user feedback is one of the most valuable ways I can understand what works, what doesn't, and what should be improved next.

Personal Vault — keep what matters, organized and private.
